QUESTION: Stark,
Since I read that you are into singing & music, I was curious about what type of music is your favorite? You are a talented actor, and I would love to see you on the stage in NY sometime. I have friends in NYC and visit whenever I can, so I usually try to catch a show when in town. Have you looked at any plays or been offered any parts?
Keep up the great movie roles Stark! I am looking forward to seeing Pretty Persuasion--Evan Rachel Wood is a terrific actress! OK--that's all for now--take care.
Jeffrey Jordan
*********************************************
ANSWER:
Jeffrey,
In short, I like 'good' music. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but if something is good, it doesn't matter what genre it is to me. But specifically, I especially like music that is under the radar and NOT on mainstream radio or MTv... There's something very gratifying about finding great musicians who haven't "made it big" yet, and sharing their music with people-- like playing it in the car and having friends interrupt conversation to say, "...hey, who IS this?" And before you know it, all your friends are listening to it, too. But sometimes, the inevitability is that the band gets a big break, signs with a major label, and is forced to adapt their sound for a mainstream audience, which usually means the music suffers in the process. Just the way it goes... Anyway, here's a list of my favorite stuff at this moment:
Death Cab For Cutie
Pinback
Arab Strap
Jeff Buckley
Kings of Leon
Muse
Jay Z
Stevie Wonder
The Postal Service
Damien Rice
John Legend
Otis Redding
The Strokes
Keane
Cocteau Twins
Kanye West
Tenacious D
Blonde Redhead
The Arcade Fire
As far as NY goes, whenever I visit I usually squeeze in an audition for a new musical or two. It is definitely on my list of goals to perform on broadway someday...

QUESTION:
I go to HP, and remember when you came and talked to Masters' Theater II class a few years ago. I was wondering if you have any productions in the works, and what you would like your next project to be?
----------------------------------------------
ANSWER:
There are currently 2 projects in the works, but I'm hesitant to get specific about them, because neither one is 100% concrete yet... What I can say is that one is for television and the other is an independent feature film. Even though everything seems to be in the right place and looking good, I try not to "spread the word" about my work until it is done. Sorry for the lame answer, but I promise I will provide updates to the site when I know things are REALLY happening.

QUESTION: Stark,
It blows my mind that you are now a big time movie actor! To think I can say I knew you when...
My question is: What was your favorite activity to do during summer (it better be summer camp)
Take care,
Jason
*********************************************
ANSWER:
Jason,
Wow, blast from the past. I will definitely say that in my younger years my favorite summer activity was indeed summer camp. I'm sad to say that I never made it back as a counselor, even though I wanted to. How old was I in your cabin, anyway, like 9? Crazy. As for my high school years, my best summer memories involve getting into trouble in my 1995 GMC Jimmy.... (that's an inside joke, everybody else, sorry) Great to hear from you.

QUESTION: Hey Stark!
Can you share your experiance in filming "Die mommie, Die?" What was Charles like?
Tracey Hollis
----------------------------------------------
ANSWER:Tracy,
Die Mommie Die was my first movie, and for those who don't know, it is an adaptation of Charles Busch's play of the same title. Before that, all I had done was theatre, so it was a perfect segue into film for me. The director, Mark Rucker, also came from theatre, so Mark, Charles and myself all spoke the same language. Making it was a blast. We shot it in 14 days, so it all went by really fast. Charles was amazing. I turned to him for help schooling me on what we were referencing/spoofing in the film, because admittedly I was not a student of those films... Charles also wrote the screenplay, so he had answers for everything. He is an incredible talent, and I am so proud to have worked with him on my first venture into film. When we took the movie to Sundance in 2003, Charles won the "Best Actor" award in the Dramatic Competition, and he absolutely deserved it.

QUESTION: Dude!!!! YOU RULE!
What was it like working with Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon? Rick
----------------------------------------------
ANSWER:Rick,
Susan and Richard, aside from being amazing actors, are both wonderful, real people. They both went out of their way to spend time with me and get to know me off-set. One night I was in my hotel room watching tv, and my phone rang. I answered it, expecting my mom, and the voice on the other side said, "Hey, it's Susan, wanna come up to the library on the tenth floor for some tea?" I went upstairs and we sat next to the window overlooking Winnipeg, sipping tea and talking about everything else besides acting and the movie. Family, travel, school... just getting to know each other, for like an hour and a half. She also gave me a present when we finished shoting. So sweet.
Here's how I was introduced to Richard Gere: Two days before production began on the movie, I got to Winnipeg and was taken to rehearse with Richard and Susan. For our home in the movie, they used a real house in town, not a set, so when I walked in, I immediately noticed that they had already "dressed" the interior of the house with photos of my movie 'family'. There were doctored photos on the entry table of a 5-year-old me sitting on Susan's lap, and on Richard's shoulders... It was insane. And Richard and Susan were already rehearsing in the kitchen, so I waited there in the entryway, listening to two of my favorite actors voices arguing in my 'movie house' looking at my 'movie family photos' just soaking it all in. All of a sudden, the argument ended with Richard walking out of the kitchen and bursting into the entryway. We just stared at each other for a second, and then he pointed at me and said, "Evan!" (my character's name) and I said, "Dad!" He smiled, and I looked around and said, "...nice place we've got here," to which he responded, "...Your bedroom's upstairs, third door on the right."

QUESTION: Dear Stark,
I think it's very sweet of you to correspond with us fans this way.
I was wondering, has life changed for you while going out in public sinse you have become famous?
Kate
----------------------------------------------
ANSWER:Kate,
No, my life is very normal. Every now and then someone will approach me and ask if I'm an actor, and it's almost always a Die Mommie Die fan. It's very flattering and it only happens in LA.

QUESTION: Hi Stark!
First let me thank you for writing back to us (your fans) I think your great!
My question is: Do you have time to travel, and if so what is your favorite place?
Thanks!
Ken Uller
----------------------------------------------
ANSWER:Ken,
I have been lucky to travel as much as I have in my life. My mom loves to travel, so I caught the bug when I was really little. I'm going to cheat and give you multiple answers: Hana, Maui, Hawaii- where I spent my summers as a child; Bled, a town in Slovenia- where a chuch sits in the middle of a lake in the shadow of the alps; and Tanzania, Africa- where I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with my dad, brother and sister in the summer of 2000.
Google all three of those places to see pictures of just how amazing they are-- my words couldn't do them justice.

QUESTION: Hello , and Thank you for a wonderful web site for Stark
I enjoy his acting.
Here are my questions:
Where can I write to get an autograph picture of Stark? Will he ever do a 'permanent' tv series? Would he ever do a Broadway play?
Thanks!
Ken Uller
----------------------------
ANSWER:
Ken,
Yes, I would absolutely do a tv series-- In fact, two years ago, I was on one.  It was called "Lost At Home" and aired on ABC.  It was a family sitcom and I was the oldest of 3 kids.  We taped 8 episodes before they (ABC) pulled the plug on us in favor of "8 Simple Rules..."  Looking back, I value the experience not only for the sitcom chops I learned, but more so for being able to go to work each day alongside Gregory Hines, an amazing talent and legendary performer, who passed away 5 months later.     Broadway is one of my goals in life.  I came up doing theatre, and dream of doing it on Broadway someday.
Regarding signed pictures, I will work something out soon and have John (the webmaster) post it on the main website...  But it would basically mean sending me a signed, self-addressed 8.5"x11" envelope, so a headshot would fit in there.  I'll set up an address in the next month or so...

QUESTION: Although I know that you are in your twenties and good genes have alot to do with great bodies... yours is so well-formed and in-shape, man. Do you work out? How often and what do you focus on.
P.S. Sorry about the superficiality of that question, but I'd like to have a bod like yours and I'll also add that your acting skill is so apparent, it barely needs mentioning.
You rock. Keep it real.
David
-----------------------------------------
ANSWER:
David,
I work out with a trainer 2 to 3 times a week.  To get in shape for Die, Mommie, Die, though, I worked much harder.  When I got the part I had 5 weeks before shooting, and I worked out for an hour every single day, doing freeweights, running, and drinking LOTS of water-- probably two gallons a day.  I also switched to 5 small meals a day and limited my carbs significantly.  The weight training was focused on more reps, not heavier weights.  Doing lots of reps will give you better definition.     I don't think you have to do ALL of that, though.  Just get in the gym 3 times a week, and be consistent with your meals.  Jesus, I sound like my trainer.

QUESTION: I would like to ask Stark if he has any desire to do comedy? Or does he prefer drama. Greg
----------------------------------------------
ANSWER:
Greg,
I've been lucky to do a little of both, and with that experience I have to tell you that I couldn't pick one over the other.  But had you asked me that in high school I would have definitely said drama.

QUESTION: Hello Stark,
I'm a huge fan of yours. I am wondering who in your young life was a primary influence on you and your love of film/theatre? Thanks.
Liz
----------------------------------------------
ANSWER:
Liz,
My Mom has always been my biggest fan and support. I think a lot of parents might scoff at the idea of their kid choosing to pursue acting for a living, but she has always believed in me 100 percent. As a kid, she would force me to watch movies with her (of her choice) in the den, and I may have groaned about it then, but I really appreciate it now. In high school, she never missed a performance, and I mean that literally. Even when we perfomed a play 20 times, she was there EVERY TIME.

QUESTION: Dear Stark,
what inspired you to go into acting? who are your biggest influences?
Laura
----------------------------------------------
ANSWER:
ANSWER:
In high school, I had two theatre teachers who were hugely inspirational. Linda Raya and J.E. Masters. There werent a TON of kids who had theatre as their main, number one interest, but I was one of the ones who did. Mrs. Raya was like my mom at high school-- I was always spending my free periods in her office, and she taught me to love the history of film and theatre. Mr. Masters gave me the understanding of the CRAFT of acting. I try to get back to see both of them when I'm in Dallas, and I'm so pleased to say that the relationships have transitioned from student-teacher to friends. If I ever get to make an "acceptance speech," these two will be some of the first people I thank.

QUESTION: Dear Stark,
Would you consider adding a link to your website so fans like me could get an autographed photo??
Angela
----------------------------------------------
ANSWER:
Angela,
I am in the process of setting up a P.O. Box where people could send a self addressed, stamped envelope (8.5"x11") to make the process easy and fast.  Once I have an address set up I will have the webmaster create a section that explains all that.  I have to say that it's crazy to me that people out there want my autograph... I am flattered and amazed- thank you Angela.

QUESTION: Stark,
HI! This is so exciting to be able to write to you! My question is regarding your website.
I love your website so much and was wondering if you maybe might consider a monthly online greeting to the website visitors? It would be so cool to read a monthly letter to fans on your site! Keep up the great acting!!! You are so cute!
Stephanie
-------------------------------------
ANSWER:
Stephanie,
You got it.  Once a month I will write something to be posted on the main website.  It may not always be very long, but I will try to do it every month, for as long as I can.
And you can thank John Seger for the website.  This was all him.  I didn't even know about it until a few months after it started.  I think its fantastic.

QUESTION: Stark,
If you could act with anybody, who would be your top choice as a co-star?? Davey.
----------------------------------
ANSWER:
Davey,

QUESTION: Hey hey Stark!
First let me say YOU ARE AWESOME!
You are my fave actor!
My question is, would you ever consider a singing career? Michelle
----------------------------------------------
ANSWER:
Michelle,
Hmmm... The content of your question leads me to believe that you know a little more than most people out there... The answer is yes. After high school, my big decision was whether to pursue acting or music, and acting became the clear choice when I was accepted into USC's BFA program. But I've always held out hope that I could make time for music as well. Maybe someday I'll get to sing in a film, or something. Or even if I could put together a band to have fun on the side, and do little gigs like the Mint in LA.... No matter what, I have to find an outlet somehow.

QUESTION: Hello Stark Sands!!!
You have such a cool name!
Is Stark your real name and if it is, how did your parents come up with such a cool name?
